Flipboard Three

For this week of the SBC, I decided to do Flipboard Three. Here are the three blogs I commented on and who I visited.

I commented on Lydia’s Blog post called All About Me. This is the comment I left:

Dear Lydia,
I have one dog, and his name is Jake. How did you come up with the names for your dogs? I like the color mint green and I play the piano. I have an older brother. What is your favorite subject? Come and check out my blog @ http://hmsjena.edublogs.org.
Aloha,
Jena

I also commented on Rajyashori’s Blog post called See, This is life!!! This is the comment I left:

Dear Rajyashori,
the picture is really really pretty. The poem is really good. Do you enjoy learning about space? Come and check out my blog @ http://hmsjena.edublogs.org.

Lastly I commented on Shata’s Blog post called Create a Photo Gallery – Student Blog Challenge Week 3. Here is the comment I left:

Dear Shata,
I like your background of snow falling. All the photos of the grass are really nice. I also like how none of them are the same, they are all different. Do you enjoy photography? Come and check out my blog @ http://hmsjena.edublogs.org.
Aloha,

What I did for Week 7

During week 7, in the Commenting Activities section, I did the 1st one. In the Visiting Activities section, I did the 1st one, since there is only one, and lastly in the Writing Post Activities I did the 2nd one.

The blogs I visited were, Madison’s Blog, Jocelyn’s Blog, Swaha’s Blog, Sohrab’s Blog, Emily’s blog, and Emma’s Blog.

I read and commented on Emma’s “Graduation is only 3 months away!!” because just like her, I am graduating in about a month.

I read and commented on Emily’s “The One Thing We Take For Granted (Part 2)”, because I felt like the more I read it I started to understand why she wrote the post.

I read and commented on Sohrab’s “Quote Challenge Week 6”, because I wanted to see what the quote was.

I read and commented on Swaha’s “5 Places/Activities to Go/Do This Summer”, because it sounded very interesting and it was kind of like things you can do when you don’t know what to do.

I read and commented on Jocelyn’s “My Easter Break – Student Blogging Challenge Week 5”, because I wanted to know what she/he does on their Easter Break.

I read and commented on Madison’s “Blogging Challenge Week 4”, because I wanted to see what topic they chose and how I might be able to help with the situation.

Some thing that I didn’t enjoy about this week’s activities was that there were so many different thing that you had to do. But I enjoy that they were all separated in to categories.

Should the voting age be lowered?

Many kids graduate high school, and have to wait until college to vote. Some are saying that the voting age should be lower, while others dont want it to be lowered. The voting age should be lower because more people would vote, people under 18 have adult responsibilities, but are denied the same rights, and lastly young people are already participating in politics before they are eligible to vote.

According to THIS WEBSITE, “Young people are participating in politics before the are even eligible to vote. They are doing that because even though they are too young to vote, they can still get their voices heard, and many of them have started successful campaigns for mayor and state legislature. People under 18 have also participated in politics by forming Political Action Committees, managing campaigns, advocating for their rights in front of legislative bodies, and becoming grassroots activists. In fact, the US Supreme Court ruled that banning people under 18 from this part of the political process violates their First Amendment rights.” Many people under 15 are taking on adult responsiblities, but are still denied the same rights.

Many under the age of 18 are contributing and active members of society. Many of them take on adult responsibilities such as bwing the primary caregiver for an ailing family member, running a buisness, and making “substantial contribution to their household (financially)“. Most are also employed and volunteer in their communities. I got my information from HERE. If people under 18 can take on adult reponsibilities, I think that they should be allowed to vote.

I believe that they should be allowed to vote, because the voter turnout will be higher, obviously since more people are voting. According to THIS WEBSITE, “People under 18 tend to have stronger roots in their community, often having lived in the same area for many years and established connections to their school, family and friends, and other community groups. This gives them an awareness and appreciation of local issues. As they are unlikely to live away from home, they would not have to deal with unclear residency laws or absentee ballots that can discourage college students or other new voters. Because of the habitual nature of voting, encouraging new voters at a younger age will increase voter turnout as the population gets older.”

I believe that lowering the voting age would have a higher turnout, becasue more people would be voting. Also, becasue if many of them can take on adult reponsibilites and are already participating in politics, then why can’t they vote. In conclusion, I believe that they should lower the voting age because if kids under the age of 18 are taking on the responsibilities of an adult what’s so wrong about letting them vote. Do you think the voting age should be lowered?

Dreams

Have you ever wondered if your dreams would come true? Well, I have. When you think about your dream coming true, sometimes it just makes your day so much better, but it might also make it worse. It can make it worse by thinking pessimistic like “Oh, that’s never going to happen. My dream is never going to come true.”

On the other hand, you could think optimistic and be like, “Wow, maybe if I just reach for my goal, I can achieve it.” So, that’s the kind of attitude you would want to have. You would want to be more optimistic than pessimistic. Here are two quotes that are kind of about dreams:

This or That?

Have you ever wondered, which is healthier potato chips or French fries? In my opinion, I thought that chips were healthier because they are cut thinner, but I didn’t realize how oily they were. Others say that for a smilier serving size, French fries contain a large potion of fat and calories, and more fiber, than potato chips. In all though it really depends where your buying your fries from, and which brand and flavor of chips you are buying.  Read more below to find out which might just be a little healthier than the other.

So first were going to talk about French fries, and see if it may be healthier than potato chips. Well, according to THIS WEBSITE,  the average package of French fries had about 274 calories, 35.71 grams of carbs, 14.08 grams of fat, and 3.49 grams of protein. “For a similar serving size, French fries contain about a large portion of the fat and calories, and more fiber, than potato chips. Fries also have a higher water content,” says THIS WEBSITE. Now let’s see if potato chips are healthier.

So potato chips may be cut thinner, but they aren’t very healthy. According to THIS WEBSITE the average bag of potato chips is around 547 calories, 49.74 grams of carbs, 36.47 grams of fat, and 6.56 grams of protein. If you eat baked potato chips and tortilla chips, they tend to be lower in calories and fat than fried chips, although they may still have the same sodium levels according to HERE. Overall, French fries and potato chips have their ups and downs about the healthiest of both.

Potato chips have more protein, but they are basically twice the time of calories, fat, and carbs than French fries. But even thought French fries have less fat than potato chips, they contain more bad fat than good fat. But, if you eat baked potato chips and tortilla chips, they tend to be lower in calories and fat than fried chips, although they may still have the same sodium levels according to HERE. And something about French fries is that “For a similar serving size, French fries contain about a large portion of the fat and calories, and more fiber, than potato chips. Fries also have a higher water content,” says THIS WEBSITE. In conclusion, they are both very unhealthy, both made out of potatoes, and are really good. So you can’t really go wrong with either. Which one do you think is healthier potato chips or French fries?

Sunset’s and Poem’s

I took this picture of the sunset.

Clouds start to change its form,

as the sky prepares for a beautiful sunset.

Sun starts to change its shape,

as it diminishes into the ocean creating a beautiful sunset.

After effects of a sunset take over the sky,

it casts a beautiful light over the ocean.

Sunset disappears into the night

as the day begins to end.

We say goodbye

as we prepare for another beautiful sunset tomorrow.

Science

So for Language Arts, we had to make 8 posts 4 about our core classes and the other 4 about resources classes. Since I have to make it about our 4 core classes, which are Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. So the first subject I decided to write about is Science. I really enjoy everything about science and it’s one of my favorite subjects. We went on a field trip to the challenger center on 3001 Boxer Rd, Kapolei, HI 96707.  The challenger center mission we went on in sixth grade was called “Rendezvous with Comet Haley”, and the one we went on in eighth grade was called “Return to the Moon.” The mission for “Return to the Moon” was to establish a permanent base on the moon to observe and explore, as well as test the feasibility of an offEarth settlement, according to challenger.org.

For this assignment, we were asked to apply for two jobs that we wanted to be. We had to make a resume for the jobs that we wanted. Here’s the LINK to my resume. I choose Medical 2 and Navigation. Medical 2 conducts tests to monitor respiration and heart rates of the Spacecraft’s area, records test results on the DATALOG, conducts research to analyze the result, and record resting heart rate of the Mission Control Crew. Navigation navigates the spacecraft, contacts Earth-based tracking sites, determines the firing parameter to enable the Spacecraft to leave its orbit around the Earth, enter lunar orbit and land on the moon, and collaborates with other teams to determine the lunar landing site. After we got told which ones we were selected as (I got navigation), you would find the person that got the same job as you. Then you would basically learn more about your job. Then before we knew it we were at the mission. I was nervous because we have a time limit that we have to successfully complete the mission in. But luckily we successfully completed the mission. I am very proud of this because we successfully completed the mission as an eighth-grade class, and it also was a lot of fun!

Here are some pictures that my teacher took at the mission:

My teacher took this picture it’s of half of the whole class

Here’s a picture that my teacher took of my doing my job as Navigation.

Thank you for reading this! Would you like to try one of this mission?
